We all root for the same guy in chick flicks. He’s usually the male lead, usually played by an attractive heart-throb actor, and almost always the favorite character among females. He’s head over heels in love with this professionally pretty-fied girl us non-airbrushed gals would love to be for a day. And here’s the worst part. This lucky, absurdly pretty chick doesn’t even know the ideal fellow exists. He does everything to get her attention. He tends to her needs, lets her cry on his shoulder over boys who didn’t even deserve a blink of the eye from her; he polishes himself up, in musicals he often sings and serenades lyrics that make sappy girls like myself burst into tears. This guy is just so good and so deserving of love, and he doesn’t get it until 5 minutes before the credits roll.
What would you do if I told you that girl was you? Yep, that’s right. There is Someone swooning over you. There is Someone who adores you and is in love with every detail of you. But this guy, He’s no character. He’s the real deal, and He did something none of these rom-com (romantic comedy) knights in armor with animated sparkles in their eyes and smoldering smirks would even think to do: He died for you.
Jesus has been loving us from the start, and we have a tragically common habit of not noticing Him. All He’s ever wanted was for us to love Him too, and there’s nothing we can do to stop Him from welcoming us in His open arms, and if that’s not beautiful, I don’t know what is.
