preface: On July 10th, I left for the mission trip I had been waiting for since 2013. A huge thank you to everyone who supported me financially and spiritually. I wouldn’t have been brave enough to accept this calling or equipped enough to embark on this trip to the DR without each prayer and donation. Thank you so so much to everyone who helped make this happen.
I wrote this poem about the change I experienced after being on the mission field overseas this summer.
Change came like the winter, when it seemed it should still be fall.
It came gusting in like the whipping wind, without time for preparation at all.
The change was so large and strong, it appeared it could not good.
But change has a way of transforming you in ways you thought it never could.
Everything seemed more surreal; every day a brand new chance,
And life became more about intention rather than dependent on circumstance.
You realized the things you’d been given weren’t meant to be stored away,
That you had actually had too much to keep and so much to share if you looked at life the right way.
You took a step outside, and nothing was the same.
But it wasn’t just your surroundings; it was the eyes from which your sight changed.
God hadn’t just changed your sight, He shook your heart anew,
So that you realized it wasn’t your world that changed, what was transformed was you.
